The first time I walked into Crema on Blake Street I nearly cried over a $6 cortado. My Breville at home makes decent coffee, but theirs had this thick, syrupy sweetness that I just cannot get no matter what beans I buy. I spent two weeks obsessing over my grinder settings and water temp, and my husband finally had to tell me to chill out. Now I just tell myself that the magic is in their machine and the barista's skill, not my kitchen counter. It still bugs me every morning though, lol.
