TIL a tender in Galveston showed me why my umbilical keeps kinking at the 40 foot mark
He said I was coiling it too tight on the spool and the memory in the hose was folding it at the same spot over and over. Loosened my wrap and started spooling with about a 3 foot loop and haven't had a pinch since. Anyone else run into built up memory in their hose like that?

A guy at West Marine told me the same thing about storing coiled hose in tight loops.
