Got called out for sharing a YT video as proof, and it made me rethink how I check sources
So about 6 months ago I dropped a YouTube link in here to back up a claim about who really funded a certain project, and this guy replies with one line: "timestamp or it didn't happen." I went looking for the part I remembered and could not find it. Not even close. I had watched a 20 minute video once, remembered the vibe, and somehow turned that into evidence in my head. That was a rough feeling. Since then I started keeping a simple text file on my phone where I paste the actual quote, the speaker's name, and where it came from before I ever bring it up in a debate. Turns out half my "facts" were just stuff I half remembered from somewhere. So my question for you all is how do you personally vet a source before you post it here? Do you actually go back and check, or do you trust your memory like I used to?
