I added up my unpaid invoices for the year at my kitchen table and the number made me sit down
I finally sat down last Tuesday with a coffee and a notebook and went through every job from January to August. I do mostly small bathroom and deck work around Raleigh, and I always figured I was doing okay because the phone kept ringing. When I added it up, I had $11,400 sitting out there in invoices that were 30 days or older, and two of those jobs were from June. I honestly thought the number would be maybe three grand. What got me was that I could name every one of those folks and none of them were bad people, I just never followed up because I did not want to seem pushy. So I have been working for free for months and calling it being polite. Now I am trying to figure out a reminder system that does not sound like a collections agency. Does anybody here use a set day of the week for follow up calls, and does it actually help?
