TIL the inspector in Mesa told me my outlet boxes were 'proud as a peacock' and I've been setting them wrong for 6 years
He said to set them a quarter inch behind the drywall line instead of flush and now every plate sits tight with zero gaps after paint. I tried it on a 900 sq ft remodel last month and not one cover needed a spacer. Anybody else get called out on something small like that and it turned out to be a total game changer?
Man, I wish somebody had told me that years ago! I had the same thing happen with a tile guy who pointed out I was butting the backer board too tight to the corners. He said leave a little gap and the whole floor stops cracking at the edges. Sure enough, did it his way on the next job and not one crack six months later. It's always the tiny stuff like a quarter inch that nobody teaches you but makes all the difference. Funny how one little tip from an inspector can save you a ton of callback headaches down the road.
