The purple shampoo disaster that stained my client's blonde in Austin

Tried a new toning technique last Tuesday with a direct dye mixed into my developer. Left it on for 12 minutes instead of the 8 the bottle said, and the ends picked up this weird gray-green hue that would not wash out. Spent an hour trying color correction with a warm gloss, but she was already late for a dinner thing. Client was cool about it, said she'd use a hat, but I felt awful and comped half the service. Any of you ever had a toner grab way harder than expected on porous ends? What do you do when your processing time guess goes sideways?

Ugh, that gray-green grab is the worst, porous ends always betray you.
