Ran a beat up old 30 ton for 6 months, then got put on the new rig and holy cow
Last April my company moved me off a 2008 30 ton that had more slop in the swing than I care to admit and put me in a 2021 rig with a brand new joystick setup. First week I hated it, everything felt twitchy and I was overcorrecting every little load. By week three though something clicked and I realized how much I had been fighting the old machine without even knowing it. My lugging on the controls went way down, my swing stops got way smoother, and honestly my neck and shoulders quit aching at the end of a shift. The biggest thing was slow speed control on steel erection, I could feather it into place instead of bumping and chasing it. I went back and ran the old girl for a day last month to cover a call out and it felt like driving a truck with no power steering. Anyone else notice a real jump in their own touch when they finally get off worn out iron, or is it just me?
