Showerthought: an old timer told me to always bump my swing brake before slewing and I ignored him for 2 months
Had a guy named Ray on a job in Gary, Indiana tell me back in March that I should be bumping the swing brake before every slew, especially with a load out at 80 percent capacity. I figured he was just old school and kept doing it my way, smooth and quick, because that was how my first trainer showed me. Then three weeks ago I was spotting a bundle of rebar and the house rocked harder than it should have, and the load swung maybe 10 inches past where I wanted it. Started bumping the brake like Ray said and my spotting got way tighter, no more chasing the load. Anybody else get taught to ride the brake instead, or is bumping it just how it's done now?
