TIL the $180 certified rigging sling I bought online was a fake and nearly dropped a load
Last week I grabbed a "certified" 10 foot nylon sling from a site that looked legit because I was in a hurry on a job in Reno. It showed up with a tag that had a serial number that didn't match anything in the maker's system, and when I called the company they said they never made that sling. I was about to pick a 4,000 pound HVAC unit with it and something in my gut said check the tag one more time. I ate the $180 and tossed it in the trash, but a guy on my crew said he's seen three of these fakes floating around the last two job sites. Where are you all buying slings that you actually trust, and has anyone else run into these fake cert tags?
