I finally figured out why my villain had no drive after a DMV clerk in Toledo gave me the best backstory tip
I was waiting at the DMV on Alexis Road in Toledo for about 90 minutes when the clerk behind the counter started explaining to the guy ahead of me why he needed a different form, and she added that she keeps a folder of every excuse people give her because they are all so creative. It hit me that my villain had no reason to be evil, I just needed him to be, so I gave him a folder of grudges from his old job and suddenly he wrote himself. Has anyone else swiped a random line from a real person and built a whole character around it? I want to know how weird your sources get.
