Paid $60 for a "vintage" typewriter that had a dead cricket inside

Found it at a flea market in Des Moines. Guy swore it worked fine. Got it home, opened the case to clean it, and a dried up cricket fell out. The space bar was jammed on its corpse. Cleaned it out and now it works perfectly. Has anyone else found dead bugs in old writing gear?

Honestly I sort of see it the other way. That dead cricket is basically a free proof that it's actually vintage and not some replica made last week. You paid 60 bucks for a real piece of history with a bug mummy as a bonus. I'd say you got a deal.

Read an article the other day about how old artifacts sometimes get little bugs trapped in them during storage back in the day. So yeah that cricket is basically a vintage authenticity stamp.

Ngl @alex820 is spot on, I once found a dead moth in an old desk drawer and it felt like a secret history bonus.
