My score jumped 40 points and then dropped 60 because of one late payment from March
So I finally hit 720 last month after two years of fixing my credit, and I was ready to buy a truck. Then my Capital One statement hit and my score tanked to 660 overnight. Turns out a $35 payment from March got reported 30 days late because my autopay switched cards after I got a new debit card in February. I called them and they said they can't remove it, only the original creditor can, which is them, so that was a fun circle. Now I'm sitting here waiting on a goodwill letter I sent two weeks ago with no response. Has anyone actually gotten a late mark removed with a goodwill letter, or am I just wasting stamps?
My one late mark from a gym membership I forgot to cancel took four goodwill letters and a phone call to a manager who clearly just wanted me to stop calling. The first three got me nothing but silence, so two weeks is still early. Capital One is rough for this stuff though, they were the ones who told me the same circle thing when my autopay broke after a bank switch. Keep sending them, but also try the CFPB complaint route, that got a real person on the phone for me.
