My score jumped 47 points in one week and then I made a $2,300 mistake at a dealership in Reno
So back in March I checked my credit on a Monday and it was 668. That same week I paid down my Capital One card from $1,900 to $180 and my statement closed on the Friday. When the new score posted the following Tuesday it was 715, which is the biggest jump I've ever seen in seven days. I got cocky and drove to a dealership in Reno that Saturday thinking I was hot stuff. The finance guy ran my credit six times in one afternoon because I let him "see what he could do" on three different trucks. By the time I got home my score had tanked down to 651 and I hadn't even bought anything. Turns out all those hard pulls count as one inquiry only if they happen in a short window for the same type of loan, but nobody explained that to me until after. I'm still kicking myself because that 715 would've gotten me a way better rate. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for a batch of auto inquiries to stop dragging the score down, or should I just wait the full year?
