Rant: I paid $75 for a "credit repair" book in Austin and my score dropped 12 points
So back in March I bought this book at a shop in Austin that promised to boost my score 100 points in 60 days. I followed the plan and disputed 9 accounts at once through the online portal, thinking I was being smart. About 5 weeks later my score dropped 12 points instead of going up, and two of the disputes came back verified in like 3 days. I called the card issuer to ask why and the rep said the disputes had frozen my file while they reviewed everything. The book never mentioned that disputing stuff that's actually correct could backfire like this. Now I'm sitting at 664 and wondering if I should just pay down my card balances before trying anything else, or if I should wait a few months for the disputes to clear off first. Has anyone had disputes hurt their score like this, and how long did it take to bounce back?
