Rant: my 0% intro APR card got cancelled right before a $4k vet bill hit

Applied last March for a 12 month no interest balance transfer card, paid off a $2k dent in my credit utilization, got my score up 40 points. Then Citi closed the account in November for 'inactivity' because I stopped using it after the transfer, and now the full $4k emergency vet bill sits on a 23% APR card I opened in Des Moines. Has anyone fought a bank to reopen a closed line for a pending charge, or am I just eating interest for the next 8 months?

Wait, does anyone actually win those battles with Citi? I used to think the whole "closed for inactivity" thing was just a scare tactic people blew out of proportion, but then my own credit union dropped my oldest line last year over a dumb $25 balance I paid late. Honestly, I'd still try calling their retention line and asking for a goodwill reopen, but I'd also prep for the no, because these banks treat a closed card like a done deal. I'd rather eat the $400 in interest than miss a payment on that 23% card, so maybe just set up autopay and move on.
