A stat from my bank's fraud dept made me rethink my whole password setup
I called my bank last week about a weird charge and the rep told me that over 80 percent of the hacked accounts they see come from people reusing the same password on like five different sites. That number hit me hard since I know for a fact I have used the same login for my email, Amazon, and a couple food apps since 2019. She said the hackers just take one leaked list and try it everywhere, which takes them about 30 seconds with a script. I changed my email password right after the call but now I am sitting here wondering what else I need to fix. Has anyone else heard a number like this from their bank, or am I late to the party on this one?
