I finally watched my coworker type his password into a shared doc during a Zoom call
Last week on a Tuesday morning call with 6 people, my coworker pasted his work login right into the chat so we could all see the screen share. I sat there frozen because it wasn't even a one time thing, he did the same thing a month ago with a client spreadsheet. Here's my take: if your team doesn't have a rule that you never type real passwords while sharing your screen, you are one bored intern away from a mess. It takes 4 seconds to use a password manager or type into a private window first. What is the worst thing you have seen someone do live on a screen share?
Oh man, I read a story on a tech blog not long ago about a guy who got walked out of his building within an hour because he flashed his admin login on a screen share with a vendor on the call. In my experience, people just do not think of a screen share as the same thing as leaving your password on a sticky note in the lobby, but it basically is. The blog said most leaks like that are not even hacked, they are just seen by the wrong person at the wrong time. I get that everyone is busy, but hitting the little pause button on your password manager is not a big ask. Your coworker is lucky nothing bad has happened yet, because that kind of luck runs out. Take this with a grain of salt, but I would say something to him one on one before a client notices instead of you.
