My dentist switched from metal fillings to tooth colored ones in 2011 and I still miss knowing which tooth was which
I had 4 silver fillings done back in 1999 and for years I could tell which tooth was which just by running my tongue along them. When my dentist in Boise swapped them out for the white composite kind in 2011, I lost that little map I had in my mouth. I get that the new ones look way better in photos, and honestly nobody wants a mouth full of gray spots, but there was something nice about feeling the old ones and knowing exactly what was fixed. My current dentist says the composite ones need to be replaced every 5 to 7 years, while those old metal ones lasted me over a decade without any trouble. Has anyone else had to redo fillings way sooner after switching to the tooth colored ones, or is it just how my mouth handles them?
