That Tuesday where every single air brake I touched fought back

Last Tuesday I had three trucks lined up for brake jobs and by lunchtime I had skinned my knuckles on two slack adjusters and dropped a spring brake chamber on my foot. It was like each truck knew I was coming and decided to make my life miserable with seized gladhands and frozen caging bolts. Has anyone else had a day where the equipment just seemed to have it out for you?

That third truck was the one that really got me. I had a 3/4 inch wrench in my hand, went to crack loose a caging bolt that looked clean, and it snapped clean off. Left the stud sitting flush in the housing. Had to drill it out in the parking lot with rain starting.

Did you check the gladhands with a mirror first?

Caging bolts breaking off clean like that is a nightmare, especially when the weather turns sour on you. That flush stud situation leaves you with no good options unless you've got a left hand drill bit set handy. Rain just makes it all worse when you're working off a parking lot. Did you have enough room to get a center punch in there?
