That one guy who told me to watermark everything was right, and I hate it

Had a piece in a local gallery showcase back in March. Some dude I barely know from a meetup kept saying always watermark, even the sketch stages. I thought it was paranoid boomer stuff. Then someone screenshot a WIP from my story and posted it as their own concept art. Three days later my client asked if I had a twin working freelance. Had to send timestamps and layers to prove it was mine. The copycat deleted everything, but it wasted a whole weekend. Do you guys watermark every single WIP or just final stuff? I feel like it ruins the look of progress shots.
