Update: the guy at the Riverside art walk told me my shading looked flat and he was right
I was showing my digital stuff at a small art walk in Riverside back in March, just a folding table with a tablet and a print rack, and this older guy stopped for like 10 minutes staring at one piece. He finally said my shadows all had the same soft edge and it made everything look like stickers floating on the background. I was kinda annoyed at first but then he pulled up his phone and showed me how he hardens edges where light wraps and softens them in open shade. I went home and redid the same piece with that one change and it honestly looks 5 times better. Has anyone else had a random person at a show give you a note that actually stuck?
