From tourists to neighbors: the quiet change in my nomad hub
Everyone says the point is to see as much as possible, so why are so many people signing six-month leases? I think staying in one place for a while beats ticking countries off a list. Are we redefining what it means to be a digital nomad?

The talk about needing to see everything quickly is mostly for two week trips. People working remotely have often stayed months in one spot to get real work done and save money. This isn't a new idea or a redefinition of the lifestyle. The core of being a digital nomad is the remote work, not the travel schedule. It's a bit ironic that you can be called a nomad while having a regular table at a cafe. The shift you see is just more people doing what always made sense for some.

Actually, nomads historically had regular routes.

Tried the two-week rush and it just left me tired and behind on projects. Slowing down to stay in one place for a quarter let me build a routine and save cash. @shane_carter nailed it, being a nomad is about where you work, not how often you move.

Guess we're all just glorified couch surfers with laptops now... calling yourself a nomad while your barista knows your usual order is pretty funny.
