I thought budget flights were fine until a cancellation messed up my work

I always booked the cheapest tickets to stretch my funds. But when my plane didn't take off and I had no way to join a video call, I missed a key deadline. What's your backup plan for travel troubles?

Yeah that's rough. I always buy the travel insurance add on now, it's a few bucks but covers a hotel if you get stuck. For anything really important, I try to fly the day before. My real backup is just accepting that I might need to rent a car and drive, so I keep some extra cash for that.

The funny thing is we all make these perfect little travel plans like we're running a military operation. Then reality hits and you're just a guy in an airport food court at 11 PM, weighing the cost of a last minute hotel against just sleeping right there on the floor. My work just gets a frantic email from the floor of gate B12 that says 'something came up.' It's fine, they love when my deadlines become flexible based on my level of desperation.
