3 years back my dad's 30 year old tape measure finally gave up
Last week I was framing a shed in Cleveland and my dad's old Stanley tape from the 90s snapped right at the 16 foot mark, the thing had been through two house builds and a deck. I grabbed a new one from the big box store but the hook catches different and the numbers feel smaller, 30 years of muscle memory just gone. Anyone else hang onto inherited tools way past their prime or am I just sentimental about a measuring tape lol?
My grandfather's old Craftsman hammer hangs on my pegboard even though I only use it for stubborn nail pulls now. Did you save the broken tape or did it go straight in the trash with the drywall dust? Because I kept the case from his level that cracked last year, and every time I look at it I remember him marking studs with a grease pencil. Is it the actual measuring that gets you, or is it more about having that worn down piece of someone else's work nearby?
