Why does everyone push full bathroom gut jobs, my 6 week paint and re-grout job still looks new 3 years later
I keep seeing posts where the answer to a dated bathroom is rip it all out and start over, and I just don't buy that it's the only way. Back in 2021 I spent $340 total on a bathroom in my house near Fort Wayne: a gallon of bath paint, a caulk gun, two tubes of silicone, a grout renew pen, and a cheap brush set. It took me about 6 weeks of working an hour or two on weekends. Three years later the grout pen is dull in the shower corner but the paint and caulk are holding fine, and I've had zero water problems. People act like a full gut is the only honest reno, but most of these bathrooms just need surface work and better caulk lines. What's the actual failure people are seeing with painted tile, because mine hasn't failed yet and I want to know what to watch for?
