Can we talk about the nightmare of getting a level floor in my 1920s bungalow

Honestly, everyone says to just use self-leveling compound and you're done in a day. Tbh, that was a joke in my place. The subfloor had so many old layers and dips that the first pour just pooled in weird spots. I spent three full weekends with a laser level, a bag of Henry 555, and a lot of sanding to get it flat enough for tile. Has anyone else had a simple prep job turn into a multi-week saga in an old house?

Oh man, self-leveling compound in an old house is basically a lie. My buddy tried that in his 1910s place and ended up having to sister-joist an entire corner of the kitchen because the floor had a slope you could ski down. That "quick fix" took a month of weekends.

Ugh, I saw a whole thread about that on an old house forum. They said it just makes a level puddle on a slanted floor.

Yeah, it's basically expensive water. You're just moving the problem.
