A plumber in Nashville showed me his PEX crimp setup in 2022 and I finally redid my whole basement last month
Back in 2022 I was helping a buddy finish his basement in Nashville and his plumber let me watch him run PEX for a couple hours. I had always been a copper guy, sweating joints in my own house for like 15 years, so I figured PEX was cheap junk. Watching this guy crimp 40 feet of line in the time it takes me to sweat two fittings honestly stuck with me. Fast forward to last month, I finally ripped out the old galvanized in my own basement after a pinhole leak soaked a box of Christmas decorations. I went with a $90 crimper, a bag of rings, and 100 feet of PEX and had the whole run done in an afternoon. Zero leaks on the first pressure test, which never happens when I sweat pipe. Now I'm sitting here wondering why I waited so long and what else I've been too stubborn to try. Anybody got a tool or method they dismissed for ages and then wished they'd switched way sooner?
