Neighbor gave me tile advice that cost me $300 in wasted material
My neighbor Gary insisted I didn't need to back butter tiles for a bathroom floor install. He said it was a waste of time and thinset, and he had tiled three bathrooms that way. So I listened to him on a 60 square foot job in my own house. Three months later I had six hollow sounding tiles right by the shower entrance. One cracked when I dropped a shampoo bottle. I had to pull up the whole floor and start over. Gary hasn't mentioned my floor since. Anyone else ever take bad advice from a buddy who swears their way works?

That time I trusted my buddy's carpentry advice and ended up with a door that opens into a wall.

90 degree mistake, man. That door's basically a closet now. Hard lesson learned about checking the clearance before drilling hinges.
