Serious question, did anyone else learn to caulk a tub the hard way like I did?
For like 8 years I did the old squeeze a fat bead of silicone and smear it with my finger thing, and every single tub I touched in my house in Boise looked like a kindergartener did it. Water kept getting behind it, mold showed up in maybe 3 months, and I would rip it all out and start over every spring like an idiot. Then a plumber buddy came by last fall to fix a shutoff valve and watched me for two minutes before he just laughed at me. He told me to cut the nozzle at 45 degrees, run a thin bead, and pull a wet plastic spoon along it once, no finger, no tool, and then leave it alone for a full day even if it looks imperfect. Did my master bath that way in October and it is still clean and tight with zero mold. So what is the dumb thing you did for way too long before somebody finally showed you?
Ha! Dude, is a moldy tub really a big deal though? Half the tubs in my old apartment looked like a science project and nobody died. But hey, if the spoon trick saves you a weekend every spring, I guess that's worth something.
