I paid $180 for a laser level and honestly it was money down the drain

Bought one of those self leveling green beam lasers last spring after the foreman kept borrowing mine and leaving it on site. Figured the fancy one would pay for itself. Three months in and the pendulum lock stripped on a Tuesday job in Denver. Calibration drifted almost 1/4 inch over 30 feet. I had to double check everything with my old spirit level anyway. My old $40 torpedo level never lied to me once. Has anyone else had better luck with the cheaper manual levels or did I just get a dud unit?
