My mentor told me to stop obsessing over lineweights and I think he might be right
He came by my desk last Tuesday and looked at a foundation plan I'd spent three hours on, then pointed at the footing schedule and asked if the foreman in the field could tell 0.35mm from 0.50mm through a dirty truck window. I've been drafting for nine years and never thought about it that way, but now I'm wondering if we spend too much time on plot style and not enough on making sure the dimensions actually add up. How do you all split your time between presentation and accuracy?
Something nobody mentions is that lineweights actually matter most for the guy reviewing the drawings, not the guy building from them. The foreman reads the numbers, but the plan checker and the engineer signing off are the ones squinting at a screen trying to tell what's existing versus new. So the real question is who you're drawing for, because those two groups need very different things.
