Went back to the old spot on Birch Creek, everything's different now
Three summers ago I could run that cut near the south bend with a 12-inch cutter head and never touch bottom. Last week I had to swap in an 18-incher just to keep the channel open, and the sediment's got this weird oily smell I don't remember. Anyone else seeing their regular stretches change that fast, or is it just this area?

The oily smell is probably from that runoff further upstream, not the river itself. If you check the sediment color, it’ll tell you more than the smell will. But three summers is a long time, stuff shifts faster than folks like to admit.
