Found a cheap trick for seamless butt joints on textured walls

After 12 years of fighting those butt joints on old textured ceilings, I tried pre-filling the tape with hot mud and letting it tack for 15 minutes before bedding it, and it cut my sanding time in half on that Bellevue job last week, anyone else do this or am I just late to the party?

Wait, 15 minutes? That seems crazy fast for hot mud to tack up enough to hold tape without dragging. I usually wait damn near 45 on a humid day and it still grabs weird. But then again, I was on a job in Kirkland last month with this plaster that just would not let the tape seat, and I ended up doing two passes on every seam. Maybe I gotta try your trick, because my sanding time on that one was brutal, like three hours for one room.
