My $140 laser level got pancaked by a ladder, buyer's remorse or no?

Bought a fancy self-leveling laser last month for a big basement job in Tucson. Thought it would pay for itself with time saved, but on day three a helper dropped a 6 foot step ladder right on it. The housing cracked and the pendulum inside is shot, so now it just flashes red and laughs at me. That was $140 down the drain, and I ended up finishing the layout with a chalk line and a bubble level like some rookie. Anyone else had an expensive tool get killed by something stupid, or am I the only unlucky guy here?

Man, I gotta disagree with you there! A $140 laser that saves you hours on layout is worth every penny, even if it only lasts one job, and most of them make it way longer than that. Sounds like the real problem is a helper who can't be trusted around expensive gear, not the tool itself.
