Pro tip: Never agree to fix gear at a party unless you want to be the unpaid tech support all night
So I'm at this party, right? My buddy's birthday, and his speaker starts making this awful crackling noise. I decide to help out, so I poke around and find a loose connection. But then it's like I opened the floodgates, and suddenly I'm fixing game consoles, tablets, you name it, while everyone else is having a blast. Moral of the story? Leave the multimeter at home if you want to enjoy yourself.

But why'd you even say yes to the second request after the speaker?

Sometimes you just get swept up in the moment, you know? It reminds me of that time I agreed to help my neighbor paint their fence because the first part went fine, but then suddenly I was also staining their deck. You don't always think it through when you're already in the middle of something.

Ugh, been there. My rule now is one fix per party, period. After that you gotta start charging or just say your hands are greasy from the chips.

My friend Alex once helped a cousin reset a password on their laptop during a family reunion. Before he knew it, he was fixing printers, updating software, and even explaining cloud storage to aunts and uncles. He missed most of the barbecue because he was stuck in the home office the whole time. It's crazy how one small favor can turn into a full-time job at a social event.
