A fabric store clerk told me to stop using scissors and it fixed my seams

I was in Joann's last month grabbing some lining and the lady at the cutting table looked at a sample I brought and said, 'You're cutting with scissors, right?' I said yeah. She told me to go home and get a rotary cutter and a mat, even a cheap one. I fought it for a week, but the first pair of pants I made with it had way less fraying and the edges lined up better. Has anyone else had a simple tool swap fix a whole problem they didn't know they had?

Rotary cutters have been all over the sewing groups I follow for years now... I always figured it was just a preference thing. But then my buddy who does upholstery swore by it for getting straight lines on thick fabric, and that got me curious. After reading a few threads where people broke down how scissors can actually pull the weave apart, I finally tried one on a quilt project. Night and day, man... the edges just stay crisp and the whole thing goes together smoother. Kinda wish I'd listened sooner instead of fighting it for so long.
