Old timer at the lumber yard in Abilene told me to stop setting posts in concrete, and it finally clicked
Was picking up 40 treated 4x4s last Tuesday and this old guy named Roy who works the yard started asking about my setup. I told him I pour a full bag of concrete per hole like always and he just shook his head and said he hasn't done that in 15 years, just packs native soil in lifts and tamps it. I tried it on a 6 foot privacy run this weekend and those posts are rock solid, plus I saved about 40 bucks in mix and an hour of work. Anyone else switched over to dry packing, or am I setting myself up for a callback in two years?
