Switched from stringers to steel posts on a 300 ft run in Cheyenne and the fence stopped sagging after one winter
I put up a 300 ft privacy fence in Cheyenne two winters ago with pressure treated wood stringers and posts every 8 ft. By spring I had 3 posts heaving and the top rail had a belly you could see from the street. Tore it all out in June and reset the whole run on 2 3/8 inch galvanized steel posts set 30 inches deep with concrete. Same cedar panels and rails on top. Just went back to check it and nothing moved, not one post, not one rail. Wood posts in this clay soil just do not hold, I do not care how much gravel you pack around them. Steel costs more upfront but I am never going back. Anyone else in the high plains running steel and seeing the same thing?
