Guy in line at the credit union in Tucson mentioned closing costs and I almost choked
I was waiting to deposit a check last Friday and this couple in front of me was talking about their first house. The guy said they had to bring almost $9,000 to closing on top of their down payment. I knew closing costs were a thing but hearing a real number from a real person hit different than reading about it online. My fiance and I have been saving for the down payment and barely thought about that extra chunk. How much did you all actually end up paying at closing, and did anything catch you off guard?
Saw the same thing when my brother bought his place, number seemed huge until we did the math on his own. Funny part is $9,000 is not even wild for a first house, a lot of folks pay more. Shoot, once you add up lender fees, title, appraisal, and prepaid taxes, that check writes itself.
