Shoutout to the inspector who saved me $8,000
I almost bought a house in Nashville last month where the inspector found a slow roof leak hidden behind fresh paint in the attic. If I hadn't paid the extra $100 for a full inspection, I would have been stuck replacing the whole roof after closing. Has anyone else had an inspector catch something major that the sellers tried to hide?

Honestly that "slow roof leak hidden behind fresh paint" part is the kind of thing that would happen to me because I'd probably be the one who painted right over it and called it a day. My last house had a leak I didn't find til my cat started meowing at a wet spot on the ceiling.

That "hidden behind fresh paint" thing is exactly how a lot of problems in life go. You patch one little thing and suddenly you've got three more showing up in different places. It's like when you finally fix that one squeaky floorboard and then notice the whole hallway is dipping a bit. Or when you clear out that one junk drawer and realize the whole kitchen needs reorganizing. The cat meowing at the wet spot is honestly the best alarm system you could ask for, better than any smoke detector. It just makes you wonder how many other little problems we're all walking past every day without noticing.

Did you read that article about how most house problems start small and just spread?
