Shoutout to the seller who paid my closing costs, after I spent months thinking I had to cover everything myself
When I started looking in Fort Wayne last fall, I thought I needed to save up at least 20% down plus closing costs before anyone would take me seriously. I was putting away $400 a month and figured I was still two years out. Then a coworker told me her seller covered $6,000 of her closing costs just to get the deal done. I asked my agent about it, and she said it is way more common than people think, especially on homes that have been sitting a while. The house I ended up buying had been listed for 74 days, and the seller agreed to cover $5,200 in closing costs plus $1,500 toward my rate buy down. My total cash out of pocket at closing was $3,100 instead of the $12,000 I thought I needed. Has anyone else had a seller cover costs, and did you have to give up anything else in the offer to make it happen?
