Walked through an open house and realized my inspection checklist was way too short
I was looking at a 1950s bungalow in Portland last Saturday and the seller's agent pointed out a cracked floor joist under the hallway that I totally would have missed on my own. That got me thinking about all the stuff I didn't even know to look for, like knob and tube wiring or old drain pipes. My home inspector is booked for next week, but has anyone else had a moment where they found out too late about something a basic walkthrough wouldn't catch? What specific things should I ask the inspector to focus on for an older house like this one?
