Fresh epoxy coating vs. old stained concrete, huge difference after 8 months

I did a small laundry room floor for a lady in Boise back in March. The old concrete had oil spots and cracks everywhere, so I ground it down and put down a two part epoxy with some flake. Walked by her place last week and she flagged me down to show it off, the color hasn't yellowed at all and the flake still looks sharp. What really got me is how the light bounces off it compared to the matte garage epoxy I used on my own slab. That cheap stuff from the big box store already has a dull haze near the car tires. Has anyone else seen a big quality gap like that with commercial vs. retail epoxy over time?

That dull haze you're seeing is probably less about retail vs. commercial and more about what you used for the top coat. A lot of cheap garage kits skip the UV stable clear coat, so the color fades and gets that chalky film way faster.
