Hot take: I stopped stripping every rose and started leaving 2 guard petals on, and my bruising complaints dropped to zero
I used to pull every single outer petal off my roses because that is what I learned in my first shop back in 2019. A grower rep from Ecuador watched me do it at a wedding prep in Raleigh and said I was basically opening a wound on every stem right before it hit the cooler. So I tried leaving the 2 outermost guard petals on and only peeling them at the very end, right before the bouquet leaves the shop. In 3 weeks of doing this I went from about 5 sad rose complaints to nothing, and my stems held 2 extra days in the vase. It feels wrong at first because the blooms look a little rough sitting in the bucket, but the petals keep the inner ones from getting banged up in transport. Curious if anyone else does this or if I just got lucky with one good batch.
