We switched from manual shakeout to a vibratory conveyor last quarter and the difference in our cleanup time is night and day.
Our crew used to spend the first two hours of every shift just breaking down molds, but now we're moving castings to finishing in about 20 minutes, so what other process changes have made a big impact in your shop?

You mentioning the cleanup time going from two hours to twenty minutes really hits home. I used to be against automated grinding stations, thought the hands-on work was better. But after we got one for our smaller parts, the consistency and how much faster we get things out the door completely changed my mind. It was a tough pill to swallow, but the numbers don't lie.

Our first automated chipper cut stump removal time in half. I fought the upgrade for years, calling it lazy. Now I wouldn't go back to the old way for anything.

Man, that cleanup time drop from two hours to twenty minutes is huge. We had the same stubborn feeling about our old manual core knockout station. Took three guys half a shift just to clear the big engine blocks. Switched to a pneumatic shakeout unit last year and it's one operator for maybe an hour. Felt like admitting defeat at first, but you can't argue with getting the floor clear.
