Talking to my neighbor's kid about his side hustle made me raise my rates
He's 19, making $80 an hour tutoring math online, and said 'If you don't value your time, no one else will.' That hit different coming from a teenager. Anyone else have a moment that finally pushed them to charge more?

That kid is onto something. It's easy to get stuck thinking your current rate is the ceiling. Hearing a number like that from someone just starting out can really snap you out of it. A good rule is to check what others charge for similar work and then add a bit because you know your own experience. Sometimes you just need that outside push to see your own worth clearly.

Add a bit" is how you leave money on the table.

Totally get that. I was undercharging for freelance writing for years. A client actually told me my rate was too low and it made them question my skill. That was the wake-up call. I doubled my rate for the next project and they hired me without a second thought. It proved that my own low price was the only thing holding me back.
