A guy at the shared workspace told me my headphones were 'rude'

I was in the quiet zone at The Platform on 5th Ave last Wednesday, just zoning out with my noise cancelling on, and this dude taps me on the shoulder to say it's 'disrespectful' to block people out like that. Has anyone else run into weird unwritten rules at coworking spots that just make no sense?

Wow, seriously? That guy must have been having a really bad day or something. I mean, come on, it's a coworking space not a coffee shop where you're supposed to be chatting people up. But here's the thing that gets me - did he actually say it was 'rude' or did he say it was 'disrespectful'? I'm trying to picture the exact wording because those two things feel different to me, like one is about social etiquette and the other is about some weird respect thing that doesn't apply to headphones in a quiet zone.

Wait, you'd say it's more about respect than etiquette @david_palmer? That actually changed my mind tbh.

Good point about the wording difference. Rude vs disrespectful changes everything. So @lucashenderson, you changed your mind on that too? What exactly clicked for you - the way he phrased it or the whole situation?
