Spotted a neat trick at the county clerk's office yesterday
The clerk showed me a shortcut for filing DBA name changes that saved me 45 minutes of form hunting, has anyone else found a local office that actually helps instead of just handing you a stack of papers?

Wait, let me play devil's advocate here. 45 minutes of form hunting isn't that big a deal compared to the time you'd waste if that shortcut leads to a rejected application or worse, a legal headache down the road. Most clerks are overworked and underpaid, so a "helpful" shortcut might just be them being lazy and skipping steps. Plus, if this trick isn't documented somewhere official, it's probably not a standard practice and could get you flagged by someone stricter later. I'd rather spend 45 minutes on forms I know are correct than risk a bureaucratic snag that costs me days or a fine.

See I gotta respectfully disagree on this one. A clerk who's been doing the job for years probably knows which steps actually matter and which ones are just padding from outdated policies. Getting flagged by someone "stricter" later usually means getting sent back to the same clerk's desk anyway, so why not cut the wait time in half. Have you ever had a shortcut actually backfire on you like that?
