inTook me 8 years to figure out I was landing my boom way too fast
Whoa, hold on a second. I get what you're saying, but I actually see it a little different. Eight years of doing something a certain way doesn't mean it was all wrong (you know?). Sometimes the way you figured out on your own works just fine for your specific situation, even if a pro would do it different. That old timer's advice might have been great for him and his world, but it could be a total waste of time in yours. I think people get too caught up in thinking there's only one "right" way, and it makes them second-guess everything they've built on their own. Sometimes the best skill is knowing which advice to just nod at and then ignore.

inThe way most people portion rice is costing them money
@xenam84 calling $20 a year a "rounding error" is the kind of energy I bring to my entire budget honestly. If I had a dollar for every time I overspent on something pointless id be rich enough to not care about the rice situation. But hey if your lazy nights involve rice that tastes like wet cardboard then you do you, I'll take my sad sticky mess over measuring like a scientist.

inWasted $200 on a resume writing service that just used a template
Those "specialized writers" you mentioned, any way to verify they're actually human and not just running a fancier algorithm?

inTried using old pallet wood for a raised garden bed... ended up with splinters everywhere and the whole thing fell apart after 2 rains. Now I just buy cedar from the lumber yard.
Cedar is usually good for closer to 10 years if you build it right and get the thicker stuff. 2x6 is fine for shallow beds but if you want root crops like carrots, 2x8 makes a big difference in how deep the soil sits. Rot sets in faster with 2x6 since there's less wood to hold up against the damp ground.

inUsed to just throw a cheap tarp over my patio furniture every winter, but after replacing it for the 4th time in 3 years I finally spent $120 on a proper cover from the hardware store last fall and it still looks new.
Does that mean investing in cheap stuff is actually smarter if you lose tools a lot?
