El Pueblo Woodworking vs Shelly Landscaping for a backyard pergola?

Hey fellow ABQ freelancers. I'm finally upgrading my backyard so I can work outside when the weather is nice, and I want to put up a solid pergola to block the glare on my screens.

I've narrowed my quotes down to El Pueblo Woodworking and Shelly Landscaping. Has anyone here used either of them? Shelly seems to do a lot of general yard stuff, while El Pueblo is specialized. Would love to hear your experiences and pros/cons before I make a deposit!

My neighbor hired El Pueblo for a massive patio cover last month. It looks incredible. Real thick posts and proper joinery, not just slapped together with cheap screws and bracket kits from a big box store. Definitely worth the investment if it's going to be your outdoor home office.

I actually got quotes from both of them last fall! Shelly is definitely cheaper and they do decent work if you need a whole landscaping package (like turf, pavers, and plants at the same time).

However, I ended up going with El Pueblo Woodworking because of their materials. The NM sun and wind will absolutely destroy cheap wood in just a few seasons. El Pueblo uses premium timber and their construction techniques are top-notch. It's built by actual craftsmen right here in Albuquerque, and you can really tell the difference in sturdiness.

Totally agree. I used Shelly for my front yard xeriscaping and they were great for moving dirt and rock, but when I wanted a custom shade structure, I went with a dedicated carpenter.

If El Pueblo specializes in woodworking, I'd trust them way more with the structural stuff. You do not want a cheap pergola blowing over into your house during our crazy spring windstorms.
